KANJENG SEPUH SIDAYU (RADEN ADIPATI SURYODINIGRAT)
The original name of
Kanjeng Sepuh is Raden Duke Soeryadiningrat. He is one of the regents in Sidayu
regency. Kanjeng Sepuh is famous because he is a scholar. Besides, he also has
a high leadership. His sincerity to always side with the weak, and always close

The origins of Sidayu have many stories,
among them are from the story of the Supa Master, at one time, the King of
Blambangan ordered his messengers to steal one of the heritage of Majapahit
kingdom. Pusaka is a keris named Sumelang Gandring. King Majapahit then make a
play, "Whoever managed to get the keris Sumelang Gandring, then he will
get a prize of forest land located between Tuban and Grissee". So rally
the warriors to fight for the prize, one by one they fail. Blambangan forest is
too fierce for them to travel, not to mention the king's supernatural powers.
So to get back the keris heirloom kingdom is impossible.
But there is a powerful keris maker. His
name is Empu Supa, it is he who makes the heirlooms for Giri Kedaton. He tried
to follow the contest, not solely to want the door price promised by the king
of Majapahit. But his intention was really sincere that he did indeed want to
show his devotion to the kingdom of Majapahit. Unfortunately no one knows how
Empu Supa can penetrate Kraton Blambangan, which clearly according to deadline
he managed to bring back the keris Sumand Gandring it and dedicate it to the
king.
The king of Majapahit fulfilled his
promise, he gave a plot of forest land between Tuban and Grissee. Then with his
followers, Supa's master began to mbabat base of that region. And forest land
in the trip by Empu Supa that will become an area named Sidayu.
In 1817 a man named Raden Adipati
suryodiningrat, the son of concubine Sayyid Abdur Rohman Siruwun Solo, began to
be bupati in Sidayu. He is famous throughout the district of Sidayu with the
name KANJENG SEPUH. Kanjeng Sepuh ruled Sidayu from 1817 until he died on March
9, 1856, so for 39 years he ruled the district of Sidayu.
This title is not only due to the supernatural and courageous
spirit, the heroism as a regent to
the Dutch government, but also because of his alim and
waro'nya, as well as honest and ikhlashnya,
especially he is
including the only cleric of Islam is very active in fighting for religion
Islam throughout the district of Sidayu.
Some of his courage and supernatural powers are as follows:
1. He frankly forbids to anyone especially to the Dutch
government to step on his dalem (home) before
getting permission
from him, so also if by chance was sleeping. Violation of this prohibition
resulted in its crazy (crazy) senerry.
2. At the time the Dutch government would establish a huge
market in Surabaya, for this the bupatis throughout Java
were summoned to Surabaya for consideration of the tax and
market name.
In this case none of
the bupatis dared to express their opinions,
except Kanjeng Sepuh
itself. He said: Gentlemen, this tax should not be sought from the regents,
which will burden
the people. But it is better if you ask
"When do we begin to fight against the invaders"?
About the market I agree to be named "PABEAN".
Surabaya Customs Market
The Dutch government after seeing the speeches of all the
bupatis that the whole noise, it is explained that:
1. Tax matters need not be discussed.
2. The matter of the name agrees with the opinion of the
Regent of Sidayu.
With this decision, some residents invited Kanjeng Sepuh
bupati to come to his house tomorrow morning at 08:00 precisely.
And he expressed his
willingness. At eight o'clock, he had arrived at all the invitees at the same
time. When he returns from Surabaya,
whenever the invitees are overwhelmed with the pride of the
invitees, among others, say that Kanjeng at 8:00
his house, another invitee
denied it, for at the same time it was in the man's house; so others are saying
the same thing.
So the bickering becomes
crowded, which finally can be realized that this is from the sacred Kanjeng
Sepuh.
The whole bupati conference
that is usually held in Madura for Kanjeng Sepuh does not want to leave before
8:00 am,
whereas at 08:00 hours that conference begins,
whereas most of the regents have long the same day left before
the conference. Just at
08:00 Kanjeng Sepuh took his KENCANA train, famous for his whip cackle (cemeti)
and in
the blink of an eye alone
he had arrived in Madura by train and horse.
At one time the Kyais in
all of Sidayu were asked to consider how good GAMELAN and GONG-GONG was made?
The Kyais are equally
afraid to answer him, and finally Kyai Musyafaklah who answered firmly, the
gamelan
is delicious and the gongs are planted
(buried) only. This decision may be approved by Kanjeng Sepuh.
The customs of Kanjeng
Sepuh's behavior:
1. Almost every night he
rarely sleeps. In that silent time it was mostly used for traveling in each
village
listening to itself and
witnessing the grievances of the hungry villagers, the sickness or other
suffering:
especially when a child
cried, that night he also provided aids in the form of money or drugs placed on
the front door of the resident's house.
2. He does not hesitate to
give advice about the matter of Islam both on the scholars' alim and to the
community in the area of the district of
Sidayu so he is known as a pioneer / protector of the Kyai.
Some relics of him who
until now still very felt the benefits to the community in the area of
district
